The year of 2004 witnessed 122 direct film releases. Based on their performance, Idlebrain.com is passing it's verdict on these films. We have categorized the box office results of these films into six categories:

1. Sensational Hits
2. Super Hits
3. Hits
4. Hits (cost failures)
5. Minimum Guarantees
6. Failures

Only 28 out of these 122 films were decent safe projects while the remaining 94 turned out be failures at the Box Office. The effect is not much when a small budget film fails. But when a film laden with big casting, not released through its own distribution circle, fails, the industry on the whole suffers the most and the impact is humungous.

Sensational Hits - 2

1. Varsham
2. Arya

Varsham and Arya stood out by the extraordinary success they achieved. These two films were commercially well accepted in all A, B and C centers which gave enormous returns to exhibitors, distributors and producers.

Super Hits - 4

1. Anand
2. Shankar Dada MBBS
3. 7/G Brindavan Colony
4. Mass

Anand, Shankar Dada MBBS, 7/G Brindavan Colony and Mass are considered as super hits of this year. Among these Shankar Dada MBBS and Mass are big budget films with big Stars. Both are returning good profits to all exhibitors, distributors and producers in the line. Anand and 7/G Brindavan Colony are less appealing commercially, compared to the big movies. But novel concepts and sensible budgeting makes them to stand at par with hit films of big stars.

Hits - 7

1. Lakshmi Narasimha
2. Malliswari
3. Venky
4. Nenunnanu
5. Puttintiki Raa Chelli
6. Samba
7. Yagnam

All of the above mentioned films had big casting except for Yagnam and Puttintiki Raa Chelli. Puttintiki Raa Chelli turned out to be a surprise hit by doing extremely well in B and C centers.

Hits (Cost Failures) - 3

1. Anji
2. Arjun
3. Sye

These above mentioned films were well appreciated by the public. But the film investors were at loss due to high budget. The producers themselves are at blame for not being able to oversee the production and budget properly.

3. Kushi Kushigaa
4. Pedababu
5. Adavi Ramudu

The above mentioned twelve films are categorized as minimum guarantee films. These films range between average to above average that broke even and fetched small profits to buyers.
