Review

Story
Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo jeevi reviewValmiki (Murali Sharma) and Anand Sriram (Jayaram) join the same company on the same date. Valmiki remains in a clerical position and Anand Sriram goes on to become the CEO after marrying the daughter of the company’s owner. Wives of these two people give birth to baby boys at the same time in the same hospital. Valmiki gets a chance to exchange the babies. He does it to make sure that his son goes on to become a rich kid. Bantu (Allu Arjun) is brought up in a middle class family with a neglecting father. Rest of the story is about how Bantu comes to know about the secret and how he reacts to it.

Artists Performance

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo jeevi reviewAllu Arjun: Allu Arjun who wasn’t seen on screen in 2019 comes back with a film and performance that justifies the gap. Allu Arjun has shown the elegance and stylishness in his appearance and body language though he plays the role of a typical boy next door (a rich kid being brought up in a middle class environment). His grace and agility in dances is superb. He did a mature performance in emotional scenes. He is extremely believable in action sequences.

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo jeevi reviewOthers: Pooja Hegde looks ravishing on the screen and acted really well. The director has focussed on the legs on this long legged beauty to generate love/entertainment. Sushanth looks good and acts well in a vital role. Nivetha Pethuraj has a character of limited scope. She is a good talent and is wasted in such a small role. Murali Sharma is given a complex character and does a brilliant job. Tabu looks pretty cool in the character of a rich mother. Jayaram justifies his character. Sachin Khedekar is excellent. Rajendra Prasad is at his usual best in a 3-scenes character. Samuthirakani is terrifying with his unusual mannerism. Vennela Kishore is entertaining in a limited role of doctor. Sunil too has limited scenes. Navadeep and Rahul Ramakrishna have limited roles in the first half. Ajay gets another role as baddie and he is good. Harshavardhan has a meaty role in the film. Brahmaji, Tanikella Bharani, Rohini and Chammak Chandra make their presence felt.

Technical departments

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo jeevi reviewStory - screenplay - direction: The story of the film is about two babies getting exchanged and being brought up in two contrasting environments. It’s a wafer-thin story. What makes a big difference to this story is an engaging screenplay. Audience and father of hero knows about the exchange of babies. The screenplay is about how it is revealed to the rest of the primary characters. Director Trivikram has been dealing with family of riches since Atharintiki Daaredi (except for Aravinda Sametha). The Vaikunthapuram house is a familiar set-up. However, Trivikram has made sure that it’s not repetitive. It’s very difficult to write the character of Valmiki which is full of grey shades. It requires dexterity to write interaction scenes between hero character and other primary characters after the truth is revealed to him. Trivikram has done a fine job in it. There is ample entertainment too. The boardroom episode where Allu Arjun gives an ode to most of the Telugu film heroes is very entertaining. Having a folk song for the climax fight is poetic and is a good experiment. The real climax of the film is about how the hero character choose to reveal the secret only for the few members of the family. Trivikram has handled the film with strong emotions. The scenes leading to interval and climax are heart-touching.

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo jeevi reviewOther departments: All songs by Thaman in this film are good including OMG Daddy. Picturization/placement of the songs is so good and you end up thinking that the duration of the song is less. Background music is very good. Cinematography by PS Vinod is pleasing to eyes. Dialogues written by Trivikram have depth and one-liners evoke laughter. Action sequences composed by Ram Laxman are stylish and entertaining. Art direction by AS Prakash is contemporary. Editing is smooth. Production Values by Harika Hassine Creations and Geetha Arts are excellent.

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo jeevi reviewAnalysis: Ala Vaikunthapuramlo is a well-written script which is executed in a classy way. Trivikram has used his strengths of entertainment and emotion to good effect. He has also used creativity by having a folk song for the climax fight of the film. Allu Arjun has given his career’s best performance. Music is excellent on screen too. Aided by a very good technical team, Ala Vaikuntapuramlo turns out to be a clean family entertainer though narration appears slow at times. Go and watch it!!
