Story
Bhanumathi is an independent thinking bachelorette who works in Hyderabad. She is from a rich family backdrop and has a huge attitude issue. Ramakrishna is from a middle class background and has some innocent charm in him. Ramakrishna joins Bhanumathi’s team at the workplace. Bhanumathi who is so proudish by nature is unable to come out of shock that she is dumped by her boyfriend. Both Bhanumathi and Ramakrishna are in their 30's. Rest of the story is about how there two people with opposite personalities fall in love.
Artists Performance
Naveen Chandra is natural as an innocent guy from a town. His diction generally has a Bellari accent to it. For this film, he has made sure he spoke Andhra Telugu. You would also have loads of sympathy for this character and fall in love with his endearing characterization. Salony Luthra performs well in her Telugu debut. Veena’s dubbing is good for the character she played. Raja Chembolu plays the role of the heroine's ex. Harsha Chemudu provides some comic entertainment. Shalini Vadnikatti (heroine of Krishna and his Leela) plays a small role in this film. So is Ravikanth Perepu (director of Krishna and his Leela). All other actors like Appaji Ambarisha, Kalpalatha, Devyani Sharma etc make their presence felt,
Technical departments
Story - screenplay - direction: It has a simple story of two people with opposite traits falling in love with each other gradually. The debutant director Srikanth Nagothi has narrated the story very naturally without falling into a commercial trap. He kept the story as plain as possible without any twists and shock elements. He has introduced two prime characters very well so that we travel with them as the story progresses. The director should be commended for exploring the psychology of 30 plus people who are yet to get married. He has shown how sensitive they are when their age is discussed. However, the emotions and the key scenes of falling in love should have been stronger so that we also get excited/tensed when the climax approaches. Nonetheless, it’s a decent debut on OTT.
Other departments: Only bits of songs scored by Shravan Bharadwaj are used in the movie. It’s effective. However, the background score appears a little loud (distracting) in a few scenes (probably something to do with the sound mixing). Cinematography is alright. Not much lighting is used in some scenes. The camera angles in a scene where the hero visits his aunt’s place are interesting (placed behind, door’s arch and window). Editing by Ravikanth Perepu is neat and 92 minutes duration has helped. Production design by Sharmela Yelisetty is alright. You do notice that the film is made on a shoe-string budget based on the production values.
Analysis: Runtime of a film can make or break a film. The runtime of Bhanumathi & Krishna is 92 minutes. If it were made for 2 hours, the director would have been forced to insert full songs and then add some scenes which might bore you. By cutting the flab and keeping the movie simple and crisp, the filmmakers have achieved the objective. Plus points of the film are characterisations and simplicity. On the flipside, the emotions should be strong and narration should have been more gripping towards climax. On a whole, Bhanumathi & Ramakrishna is a simple and passable film for OTT.
